Partnerships
Since 2021, mbyM has been a member of Better Cotton and taken part in a global movement with a shared goal of improving cotton production.
Better Cotton’s mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.
Through our membership in Better Cotton, we proudly invest in and support the implementation of Better Cotton programs, which offer field-advice and training on more sustainable practices for cotton farmers around the world.
In 2021, we sourced 15% of our cotton as Better Cotton, which we managed to double in 2022. By the end of 2023, we have committed to source 35% of our cotton as Better Cotton. We are well aware that this is not an ambitious goal, but it must be seen in the light of the fact that we prefer increasing the amount of organic and recycled cotton used in our styles.
In a partnership with more than 2,500 members, Better Cotton educates and trains cotton farmers around the world to grow cotton with better soil and water management, less use of pesticides and greater resilience to climate change.
Better Cotton is typically mixed with or substituted by conventional cotton due to a Mass Balance Chain of Custody, meaning it is not physically traceable fibers like conventional cotton, organic cotton or recycled cotton. For that reason, we have chosen not to include Better Cotton in our category ‘preferred fibers’ presented on our material page.
